Dozen Photo Challenge

I feel like my most successful image for this challenge would be this one I took of my friends in the middle of our 1 AM trip to Waffle House:

We changed her mind about Waffle House.
We originally wanted Taco Bell.

I believe this image is successful because it captures the idea of symmetry without conforming too strongly to its definition. While both of my friends aren't perfectly mirroring one another, their bodies are in similar positions—back against the seat, one hand raised up to their face, one arm straight down. This image was taken on my old Sony digital camera. While it may not have the best resolution by today's standards, I think it adds to the charm of the image.

One of the most challenging aspects of this project was finding photos that met the requirements for Lighting and Color. This past month, I was able to help take photos for two different student organizations. While I was able to take hundreds of photos for both clubs, lots of the images were taken under the same lighting and background conditions, so I had to look elsewhere to cover the different options I could use for the project.

In the future, I will try to create stronger images by experimenting more with different lenses. I used four different cameras throughout this challenge, but I might choose to get more practice in with my DSLR. Some of the photos that I used in the challenge were taken with my 35mm prime lens, and there were some photos that I think I could have had better results with if I had a different focal length. I have a zoom lens sitting in my room back at home, which I might try to bring on campus.

Commenting on Another Student's Blog

The comment I left on Kayla's blog post is as follows:

Something I like about this image is how the color of their dresses let them pop out from the white paint of the walls. The depth of field between the girls and the back wall also help them pop out, as there is a bit of physical distance between the girls and their backdrop. I think this depth is also shown through the use of the camera's flash in this photo, as the shadows project onto the back and side wall too.

Something I would change about this image would be the inclusion of the disco ball in the archway. If it were removed, this image could follow the rule of odds, where the three girls are what's being focused on in this image. The disco-ball might take the eyes of viewers away from this.

Hi, I really like how this image shows happiness and you can really understand the moment. I wish I was as experienced as you with cameras and hope that this class can improve my current skillset.

I really like the charm that this image has with the old vintage look from taking it on an older camera. The candid aspect of the image makes it seem like an overall fun image. The symmetry of the bodies is visually pleasing and their positions really mirror each other. The one thing I would maybe try to edit is the lighting because the flash on the table seems too bright, but that might also be just because of the camera.
